Yankee Stadium Memorabilia, Cards

Yankee Stadium's year-long farewell is creating quite a memorabilia frenzy.

You remember the 'cursed' David Ortiz Red Sox jersey that was buried--and then unburied from the concrete inside the new Yankees' park? Tip of the iceberg.

There's an ongoing discussion about what to do with all of the memorabilia left in the old place--like Yankee Stadium seats, which most fans are pining for. The city is trying to strike a deal with a memorabilia company because there is big money at stake.

There will be an auction at All Star Fan Fest which includes actual game worn apparel and equipment from Thurman Munson (his widow is selling off much of his baseball memorabilia, some 29 years after his death in a plane crash). His last uniform is for sale, which is kinda creepy. Even his World Series ring. Whitey Ford has gone through all of his game used stuff and awards and has consigned some vintage Yankees memorabilia to the auction as well. There is also a Babe Ruth home run bat in there.

Then, there is the ongoing baseball card set "Own the Legacy" which is being produced by Upper Deck. It's over 6,000 cards and UD is really trying to promote it although it's not a project for the sane to attempt to complete. They're putting out regular updates on the cards, prize winners, etc. Today, they even hired a guy to walk around in a #3 jersey, trying to get on the Today Show and a 'street' crew to hand out thousands of mini-packs to try and get fans interested in the promotion.
