Ball Signed by Shoeless Joe, Buck Weaver Sells for $69,000

Joe Jackson really did learn how to write his name. The proof is in the form of a limited number of Shoeless autographs that have survived through the years.

It's rare to find a Jackson signature; even more difficult to find him sharing a ball with his 1919 Black Sox teammate Buck Weaver. They were gone from baseball by the early 20s, banished for life for supposedly taking part in a plan to throw the World Series in exchange for gamblers' money. Yet Huggins & Scott Auctions did locate such an autographed baseball and sold it late this week. It went for $69,000.
